Robert Langer and engineers at MIT have been researching on creating a single-dose biodegradable vaccine that can release the drugs or vaccines into the patient’s system on a specific schedule. Using Photolithography and 3D Printing, they have developed a microparticle that is made from a biocompatible, FDA-approved polymer and resembles a tiny cup. The fundamental idea is to assist babies in developing countries, who don’t always have access to doctors, could receive all the immunizations they needed for their first couple years of life in one shot.
